One of the most common mistakes businesses make is overestimating how much customers know about their products.

For escape rooms, watching a related show and actually playing a room are different experiences. Operators work with their products every day, and it is easy to assume customers start with the same familiarity.
That makes a product guide written for the general public especially useful. We should assume customers may be unfamiliar with the terms we use routinely: escape room, script, theme, puzzle mechanism, trigger, recorded audio, background music, strobe lighting, individual task, completing the game and post-game debrief.
Many things that seem obvious to us may be entirely unfamiliar to someone else.
